Earlier this week, I talked about what things I am excited to see in the decor world in 2017. One area I want to expand on is spirituality in the home. Right now I sense that people are living with a little bit of fear of what is going on around the world. Times like these are when we like to turn inward to the home and create sanctuary and refuge from the outside drama.
Most of us are trusting in our personal beliefs of a higher power. So spirituality is on the rise in terms of home decor. I personally believe that spirituality can be glamorous. Why not add a little bit of that in to your home?
There are so many ways to add spirituality to your home and create a sanctuary without being too literal. You can frame quotes that keep you faithful, stack a few of your favorite books to read by your bedside table with some candles. Whatever brings you comfort when you need your personal prayer and meditation time. You can set up a journaling book, a reading station or an area of your home where you practice your yoga stretches.
There are plenty of ways to give your home that sanctuary feeling. No matter what your religion, there are ways to display personal spiritual symbols in a glamorous way.
Candles are the quickest way to add intention to your new sanctuary space. If you aren't into the religious our spiritual thing, thats okay too. Set up a personal altar of your favorite things. I love this little table of candles, flowers, books and a crystal. More on crystals here. A personal space will be your home, your center for calm and refuge from stresses of the outside world.
It's important to create this space in your life, I talk more about it my book, Blissful Living.
P.S. If you have kids in the home, and they are old enough, let them create their own personal altar too. They really love doing this, especially playing with crystals and stones. Having the responsibility of watering and caring for succulents is an easy and fun way for them to learn personal responsibility. At least with my niece and nephew, they LOVE having little responsibilities at my home.
What are your favorite ways to set up a personal sanctuary at home? I would love to know more tips.
