What you do in your mornings determines everything about your day. So many studies have shown that in order to have a successful day, you must be intentional about your morning routine. Earlier this year, my coach and bestie, Cara of The Champagne Diet encouraged me to create a morning ritual that was so good, it completely changed my life!
She helped me create a personalized morning routine that enhanced my self-love, productivity, happiness and ultimately my bliss. Now that I have been doing this for months, I have seen HUGE changes in all areas of my life. We discussed the importance of having a morning routine and now my clients also have become addicted to it too.
Here are my 6 steps to curate a healthy routine for morning bliss. . .
ONE: Set your alarm. You want to develop habits of consistency and discipline. Finding a time that works for you to get up at the exact same time every morning. It's like making an appointment with yourself and keeping it. This helps you to practice integrity with yourself, which in turn will attract others into your life with integrity too. A HUGE habit in personal growth. My perfect time in the morning is 6:45 am. It gives me enough time to spend time enjoying and luxuriating in my morning instead of rushing to start my day. Who wants to rush? It's so much more fun and satisfying to have time to enjoy your first waking moments with yourself and the things that make you happy.
TWO: Curate your little luxuries. The first minutes in your morning should be spent investing in your self care. The second I get out of bed I light my favorite candle, put on my deliciously soft robe and make my favorite coffee in my favorite coffee mug. Once I got in the habit of really indulging in my morning moments, I noticed how excited I became to get up in the morning. I couldn't wait to slip into my robe and sip my coffee while smelling tuberose. I feel like I am a 5 star luxury hotel when I whip out my favorite things. This also gets you in the habit of appreciating the small luxuries in your life and paying attention and being present to the HERE and NOW. Like I love to say "luxury doesn't have to mean expensive".
THREE: Get in your zen zone. As many of you know, I am all about creating a personal sanctuary at home. I like to get my "glam-shui" on and place a super comfortable chair aka throne in the knowledge and self-cultivation zone of the bedroom. It's important to spruce up this space so you are excited about zen-ing out there. I have some clients who like to zen in their closet, so whatever area works for you is fine. Here you will spend a good chunk of your morning investing in yourself.
Here is a little peek at my glam little sanctuary. . .I just love spending my time here.
Curate your "glam-shui" sanctuary.
FOUR: Meditate for 10. Meditation is key first thing in the mornings. It's the time when you can let go any thoughts about yesterday and clear your mind for new thoughts for today. When I first got into meditation, I was pretty intimidated not knowing what the heck to do. I thought to myself, "no way I can do this". So, I downloaded the headspace app on my phone which was extremely helpful and you get a free 10 day trial. It's basically paying attention to your breathing and learning to breathe deep enough to clear out your mind, body and soul. Now, I am obsessed. Feel free to meditate in what way works for you, I can't do it without my coffee. As long as you do it for 10 minutes, I guarantee it will be good.
FIVE: Free write in your journal. Get yourself a gorgeous journal and pen. Something pretty that you just love to look at. After meditating, your mind is clear and you should be ready to write. Write what you appreciate in your life right now, how you want to feel throughout the day, what you would love to accomplish, a fresh perspective on an otherwise negative situation. Be intentional. Use this journal to get out any fears, thoughts or memories you want to clear out and get rid of. This is your time to dump out anything and everything in that brain of yours. It's a physical detoxing of your mind. This is HUGELY helpful before you begin your day. It helps you to prioritize what you really want to do that day so you can feel good about yourself. It's also key for optimal productivity.
SIX: Turn up. After about 15 minutes of my journaling, I am so ready to begin my day. I've cleared my mind, I know what I need to do, I'm feeling good and ready to go! Instead of watching the news or some morning talk show, turn on some good music and have a little morning party. I am obsessed with my UE Boom speaker and I love to throw on some fun music while I am in the shower. Why not try some jazz or Frank Sinatra if you want to feel Breakfast at Tiffanys vibes? Play Beyonce or Mariah if you need some #girlboss energy. I like to listen to hotel lounge music, it makes me feel luxe and decadent like I am in a 5 star hotel. Whatever works for you.
Try this routine for a week and see if you feel a little more bliss in your life.
