There is nothing more important than smell. If you have been reading me for any time at all, then you know my obsession with candles is a serious one. It’s because smell is one of the biggest things to me.
Have you ever walked by a woman who just smelled fantastic? Smelling good makes a lasting, even memorable impression. It’s so important, even dare I say its more important than your outfit. Fun fact: I am a licensed esthetician in the state of California, I have always been very passionate about skin care. Skin, hair, health & wellness.
Okay so, let’s just right to it shall we?
I have a ton of perfume recommendations I could give you but the truth of the matter is what works for me may not work for you. We all have different pheromones so one thing may smell great on me and not so great on you. I tend to lean towards musky, oriental, spicy florals, etc.
Do you remember my shopping trip to Kilian? I highly suggest you head to your nearest department store this holiday season and stock up on a Kilian fragrance. My favorite is Good Girl Gone Bad and Love Don’t Be Shy. I have never gotten so many compliments on one fragrance.
6 perfumes that will make you smell like a bombshell:
Byredo: Mojave Ghost (this one smells good on anybody, men and women, its divine)
Michael Kors ( I love this in the Spring & Summer )
Jo Malone Tuberose Sambac & Marigold
Dior Addict ( I love wearing this on a cold night, it has a sexy spicy vibe )
Chanel Allure is my favorite Chanel fragrance
Flowerbomb is an oldie but goodie.
P.S. The floral dress I am wearing, I have them in all colors. I especially love it in black.
Now that I have shared my favorite perfumes, I’d love to share with you my secrets for making your perfume last so you smell like a bombshell all day long.
It starts in the shower. Your body wash and your lotion are always going to be your base for a perfume. Keep these scents really soft and clear, nothing too harsh smelling in the shower because it could totally clash with your perfume. I have always really liked the Hempz in Vanilla Plum. It’s soft smelling and a really good lotion without harsh or drying chemicals.
Oils hold fragrance really well. A girlfriend of mine introduced me into this grapeseed oil spray. A few spritzes around the decolletage & you really moisturize your skin plus, it helps lock in whatever fragrance you add on. Side note, I have olive toned skin and I lean toward the oily side. So, I use coconut oils in the Summer and grapeseed oils in the colder months.
Store your perfume in the fridge. My mom always taught me to keep perfume & nail polish in the fridge, so that they keep and last a long time. Not sure if it really works but I love to store my smells in the fridge. In fact, I store a lot of my beauty in the fridge. Especially the eye rollers, nothing cures a champagne hangover like a nice, cold eye roller. Clinique makes the best one that will de-puff and soothe your eyes instantly.
Know your notes. I always like to make sure to get an eau de parfum, versus an eau de toilette. In the EDT, the top notes – the first scent released by a perfume – are dominant, making it refreshing when it is applied, but it evaporates and fades away quite quickly. With EDP, you will get the top notes at first, then the middle, then the finish. It is a wonderful progression that can really be divine with your body chemistry. I like perfume to linger and last. I love spicier notes like musks, oud, tonka beans and amber. Go to a Sephora (they are so helpful with fragrances on the site) and do some research on the notes that you like.
5. Don’t be afraid to mix. I love mixing smells to really make my own signature scents. I can remember one mix I did several years ago, people would beg to pay me for it, but I had forgotten what mix it was. Ha! Right now I am obsessed with Jo Malone Myrrh and Tonka. I have never gotten so many compliments on my smell. It’s divine. Anyway, I love to keep perfume rollers on me so that when my main perfume fades, I can roll on some to enhance the overall scent. I have been a longtime fan of Pacifica, mostly because its affordable & smells great! I like the Sugared Amber Dreams for a nice enhancement to my scent.
6. Don’t forget your hair. I am telling you, hair is so important. Especially when you have long hair like I do. When you flip around your hair, it gives off a vibe. It needs to be a gorgeous smell when it wafts around the place. There are plenty of hair mists out there, I have used many but I recently found TOCCA Hair Fragrance, and Stella is my favorite. You’ll be feeling like a goddess.
Okay, now I’m off to record a podcast for you guys.
