"The most important investment you can make is in yourself" - Warren Buffet
The very first time I heard this quote, it really hit home. Ever since I can remember, I've been a bargain girl. Going around, hunting for the best deal almost was like a sport for me. You totally get a high from scoring a super deal. I still find myself doing it to this day. It's always worked for me fabulously, until I saw how it affected other people and their lives.
I have always been a big believer in how the home is a reflection of your soul and whats going on in your life currently. It's like a physical representation of who you are being in the world. One of my clients was complaining to me recently about her personal life (which happens all the time as a designer by the way, I am inevitably your therapist). Her relationship with her husband isn't as intimate as she would like. They are wanting to have children and she is trying so hard to spark a little romance in their life. For the life of her she hasn't figured out where and when it went wrong.
As her designer, I can't help but notice that over the last couple of months she has been incredibly reluctant to make any purchases for the master bedroom. Everything I have proposed to her, she is waiting for it to go on sale or see if she can hunt for a better deal. She still hasn't even made a decision on a paint color. For some reason, she just can't commit to anything. So, naturally her master bedroom is mismatched, undone and not a very nurturing and romantic space.
Of course they aren't connecting, they don't have a place to do so. It really has me so passionate about showing everyone I know how important it is to invest in yourself, especially when it comes to the home. Sometimes its well worth a couple extra dollars to not wait for it to go on sale and enjoy the experience of a beautiful home NOW! Not waiting to make your life extraordinary right away.
THE ROMANTIC BEDROOM:
I really love this bedroom I found designed by Brittaney Elise. It's California romance at its best. I'm all for a beautifully designed space with trends and cool things but there is nothing like a romantic retreat for you and your partner to come to home to. Even if you are single, to have a space that makes you feel nurtured and comforted, a space that gives you a sense of bliss. It will do wonders for your self love and probably attract the parter that you desire. Taking pride in your home and space should be one of the biggest priorities in life. Once you invest in your sanctuary, watch how your life unfolds.
If this look is a little too feminine for you, you can just draw some inspiration. You only need a few essentials to create romance in your own bedroom. My go-to's are:
COLOR, CANDLES, FLOWERS + FLUFF
Color: You can stick with the neutrals if you so choose, but be sure to add some color mixture. Even if its beige and white, mixing color in adds warmth to a space.
Candles: Aroma is so important to the senses. Make sure you have a few candles that smell divine. You want enough of them that without light, they really leave a beautiful glow.
Flowers: Any kind of nature will do really. Fresh flowers or even a plant, brings life to the room. It just has a great energy and can be incredibly beautiful too.
Fluff: Pillows, blankets, throws, etc. You want your bed to be comfortable to retreat to. A plush rug adds a deliciousness to your feet. Have a robe ready to wear after your nightly shower.
WHAT TO LEAVE OUT: Photos of family members. Anything to do with work. Artwork that is loud or disruptive. Super harsh lighting. Many people also say to leave the TV out but I find that watching movies can be totally romantic.
