I've been beyond ecstatic by the response from my newsletter mini series: Design Your Best Life. It makes me realize just how much you all really love to incorporate well-being and organization into your life style, as well as into the home. I will probably turn the series into a downloadable ebook, so if you want one just leave a comment below with your name and email, I'll be sure you get one.
This led me to think a little bit more about sharing more balance in the home. Some easy things you can do over the weekend to spruce up your home and get your energy flowing correctly. I call it my "glam-shui" magic. In Feng Shui, there is a lot of talk about the 5 elements: WOOD, FIRE, WATER, METAL and EARTH. We want to balance out these in all the right places. Here is a little breakdown for you. . .
WOOD: ushers in the power of creativity and expansion, think strength, flexibility and intuition. Too much wood may represent feelings of overwhelm, inflexibility, rigidity. Too little wood can inspire a lack of creativity and depression.
TRY THESE: Add vertical branches into the room to mimic the feeling of trees. Use natural fibers like cottons with bamboo for your home fabrics. Real wood dining tables look great in glam spaces.
FIRE: the key element for enthusiasm and leadership skills. It encourages expression, boldness and inspiration. Too much fire can bring out anxiety and impulsive behavior. Too little and you may experience poor self esteem and lack of vision.
TRY THESE: I'm a sucker for candles, fire them up in any areas without the fire element. Try adding a leopard pillow, animal prints are total fire. I'm not a big fan of red, so add a softer shade like pink or purple.
EARTH: It's the symbol of balance, grounding and stability. Too much earth and you may feel sluggish, boredom a heaviness. Too little earth causes indecisiveness, chaos and confusion.
TRY THESE: My favorite way to add a little earth is by adding beautiful landscape art. Makes you feel connected to the world and so beautiful to gaze at. Anything brown is fantastic for some earth lovin'.
METAL: Metals give strength to mental clarity and sharpness. They'll have you feeling organized and focused. Too much metal and you may be experiencing speaking without thinking and being overly critical. Too little and you will feel quiet, cautious and inability to focus.
TRY THESE: In my clients room above, I threw in metallic lamps and side tables on either side of the bed for stability and just a pop of metal. Try silver, gold or mixing a few metallics with pastels. Anything round like stones or rocks works too. . .see how to decorate with stones.
WATER: If you are feeling out of touch with your spirituality or emotions, add the water element. It enhances inspiration and insightfulness. Too much water and you may sense you are unbalanced and emotionally drowning. Too little water and you may experience loneliness, stress and a lack of sympathy.
TRY THESE: A blue sofa or photo of water is so chic right now. Mirrors also mimic the essence of water as does the color black.
