Goat season is here and I'm not talking about "Greatest of all time," although Capricorns would definitely accept that title! The sun moves into Capricorn on December 21st which marks the beginning of winter for those of us that live above the equator and summer for those below. The beginning of a new season is the perfect time to switch up your decor which can bring new energy to your space. And when you change the energy in your home, you can change your life. And what better time to do this than just before or after the new year?! Here are tips for how to decorate your home for Capricorn season.
Capricorn Season Tip #1: Choose Quality Over Quantity
Capricorn rules the 10th house in astrology which is associated with status and how we want to be seen in the world. It is the highest part of a natal chart in astrology and Capricorns tend to aim high in life. Because of this, many Capricorns are more concerned with quality over quantity because more/bigger doesn't always mean better. Try using quality fabrics and textures on your furniture and/or surfaces in your home. This way your decor will not only look better but also be more durable which will actually save you money in the long run.
I love investing in quality bedding, it makes sleep so much more blissful.
Capricorn Season Tip #2: Create a Home Office or Working Space
It's no secret that Capricorns tend to be workaholics. They don't mind putting in more hours than most to achieve their goals. We can all learn to channel our inner boss like Capricorn does by creating a home office (if you're lucky to have extra space) or work space separate from your bedroom or living area. It's easy to get distracted when working from home but if you create a work space that is inspiring, you will actually enjoy blocking out time to get things done in the comfort of your own home.
Make a space that's cozy by adding a beautiful sheepskin rug, this one is my favorite!
Capricorn Season Tip #3: Create the Illusion of Space Through Height
Capricorn's symbol is the goat and goats have great climbing and balancing abilities. This animal is not afraid of heights. One way to create visual space in your home is by using tall furniture or hanging drapes/curtains higher than the window. Tall slender bookcases are great for making your ceiling appear higher than it actually is. Or you can do the opposite by choosing furniture like a bed or coffee table that is closer to the ground.
I love to hang curtains all the way to the ceiling. Make a statement with ombre drapes like this.
Capricorn Season Tip #4: Out with the Old, In with the New
Capricorn is one of the 4 signs in the zodiac that is connected to the change of a season. And on the Gregorian calendar, Capricorn season starts a little over a week before the New Year. So Capricorn season is the perfect time to shed old decor, furniture, clothes, accessories, etc. to bring new energy to your space. If you can’t afford to purchase new furniture or décor, why not change the paint color in your home or on a piece of furniture like a dresser. It's a great way to add some "pop" for a low price.
Give a vintage piece with cool lines a makeover with white paint. Great way to start the year.
Capricorn Season Tip #5: When in Doubt, Stick with Tradition
Capricorn is ruled by planet Saturn which governs hard lessons and tradition. And for this reason, many Capricorns can be more traditional and/or conservative in certain areas of their lives. So while that hot pink wall or painting your living room the Pantone color of the year may seem like a good idea, ask yourself if you can live with such a bold change for at least a year. If the answer is yes, by all means go for what you want. But if you live in a home or an apartment thank you plan to live in for a long period of time, you may want to rethink that bold move you're about to make. #Keepitclassy
A gorgeous antique gold mirror or any piece with a little history is always going to be a classy choice.
