This post is a guide for how to feng shui your primary bedroom & make it a sanctuary.
When I first walked through what is now my new townhome, all of the walls were a bright white (which I looooooved, I can’t stand when they use the typical beige). I knew that most of the home I would keep white because of all the natural light. However, in the bedrooms, I knew I wanted them to be in beautiful colors. Read why I chose the colors here.
I am the type of girl that decorates the entire home in my mind before I even move in. Literally, my dreams will come up with ideas for decorating and sometimes, I won’t even sleep because I will be devouring design inspiration anywhere I can get it. God knew exactly what we was doing when he put the love of interior design in me because it just feeds my soul in so many ways.
When getting inspiration for my bedroom, I just knew I wanted it to feel moody, luscious, modern, masculine with a bit of bohemian romance. Think bespoke Tulum hotel meets Restoration Hardware.
For me, it all started with the color green. For several reasons. First, Tulum, Mexico is one of my favorite places to visit. Everywhere you go, the color green completely surrounds you and I wanted to feel that feeling everyday as I do my night routine and sleep. Next, as many of you know, I am a firm believer in the mind/home connection that is described with Feng Shui. The color green is a color that brings the energy of life, growth, renewal, regeneration, vitality, abundance. There is so much healing and harmony with this color. Also, the color green is the color that heals the heart chakra and will help to open up your heart for love. ( If you haven’t read my e-book for manifesting love with feng shui, you absolutely should, I share everything you can do in your home and master bedroom to attract love ).
My master bedroom happens to be aligned with the love corner of my home so it completely makes sense for me to make the room into an absolute sanctuary. I also wanted to create my bedroom to be a space that felt like I was on a vacation because when you set up your home to trick your mind to feel like you are experiencing vacation ( ie. freedom, joy, bliss, etc ) you will be in a better state to manifest things in your life that will lead you to more of those feelings.
So there are a few things I have kept completely out of my master bedroom.
5 feng shui mistakes you don’t want to make in your bedroom:
Photos of friends, family or others. keeping your master bedroom completely neutral of the energy of others or old memories keeps your mind free and clear of the past when you are going to sleep. And if you know anything about Neville Goddard then you know the thoughts you are thinking just before you drift off to sleep are creating your life experience. So, keep your room free of too much personal energy.
Things under the bed. Anything you put under the bed will energetically affect your sleep so honestly unless it’s something very neutral energetically like soft blankets, just don’t do it. It can weigh you down.
Any mirror where you can see yourself when you sleep. I absolutely love mirrors in the bedroom. In fact, I wanted to recreate the Restoration Hardware mirror over nightstands look because it completely opens the room and makes the room feel completely luxurious. However, if you can see yourself in a mirror when you are in your bed, it will disrupt your sleep cycles. You want your mind to be completely at rest with no distractions. So any mirror should not reflect you in the bed.
Anything that doesn’t feel luxurious. Every time you interact with something in your bedroom that feels cheap, old or reminds you of something you need to do but can’t afford yet….it puts you in the lack energy and you do not want that. It’s better to have less but things that feel absolutely divine to you. And this doesn’t mean that it has to be expensive, it just means it has to feel luxurious to you.
For example, my bedding. I’m a big fan of these sheets and I have a set but I also have another set of way more affordable sheets I got from HomeGoods that are just as divine. I like to make sure my sheets aren’t cotton and are made from bamboo. Your sheets need to feel delicious. I also only sleep on these Yanibest Mulberry silk pillow cases because I like to make sure that my hair and face are cared for.
And while I am on the topic of bedding. I am so not a fan of white sheets and I cannot tell you how difficult it is to find design inspiration with a room that doesn’t have white sheets or bedding. In Feng Shui, the color white represents the energy of a blank slate, the energy of waiting for something to happen, the winter season. While it may be good for a place like a hotel with different guests staying on those sheets every night, how can that energy be good for the home of a woman who wants to build a full, rich and abundant life. I’ve always been a fan of pink sheets because the color holds the energy of love, self love, beauty and joy. In this bedroom, I wanted to feel grounded, cozy, relaxed, abundant, healthy and positive. So, I chose warmer, Earthy colors for my bedding so I could pull in those energies to my sleep.

Now here’s a breakdown of what I used for my bedroom:
♥️ I have a Thibaut extra tall upholstered king sized bed in a dark velvet gray. You can get something similar at Restoration Hardware or Arhaus. I like my bed to be very low profile, it just feels better to me that way. This is a similar, more affordable option.
♥️ The wallcolor is Sherwin Williams Secret Garden - by far the best for deep olive green walls, in some situations it can almost look like a soft, moody black.
♥️ The nightstands I found at Scout Design Studio in Dallas for like under $100 each. I am obsessed with these black lacquer chinoiserie style nightstands. I literally will never get rid of them. They are low profile which I love. Hot feng shui tip: You want your nightstands to match or be very similar, this will help keep your relationships balanced and reciprocal.
♥️ The lamps are vintage white milk glass, I got them at Goodwill for $18 for the pair. I have a love affair with them. They’ve been with me forever.
♥️ The mirrors behind the nightstands are the IKEA Nissedal mirror.
♥️ The artwork above the bed is so soothing. I found the set of 3 sketches on Amazon.
♥️ The two large pillows are from Arhaus and the boho pillow is from Anthropologie.
♥️ The sheets I am obsessed with are these luxurious bamboo ones.
♥️ I almost went with an olive green velvet for the curtains but I couldn’t get the right color so these black velvet curtains literally worked perfectly. I used this matte black curtain rod with modern finials. I also love to use the rings with clips options, I just think it looks more tailored and chic.
♥️ The faux tulips I have on the window side of my bed literally are my favorite thing of all. They just brighten my morning.
I’m obsessed with my bedroom. It literally has turned out exactly how I dreamed. I am still looking for more art, furniture and other pieces to get it exactly how I want it. But I believe in decorating as an ever evolving process, not just a one time and done sort of thing. Your home should be your sanctuary, your best friend and one of the most important relationships you have so be sure to take your time, decorate only with the things you love and cherish every moment in the home you are in now.
