Have you ever felt like you just need to take a step back and create sanctuary at home? This post is all about 8 ways you can simplify your life and slow down at home.
Lately I’ve been spending an extraordinary amount of time at home, especially in my bedroom. Between, cancelling dinner plans in favor of giving myself an at home facial to spending all Sunday afternoon in bed catching up on the latest Love is Blind episodes on Netflix instead of brunch. I just can’t help but feel that the art of luxuriating at home is the ultimate bliss.
For most of my life, I’ve been very passionate about the art of domestic bliss. However, after the early years of becoming a new mom & the years of quarantine and being forced to stay home for months, I found myself feeling a little guilty if I didn’t get myself out to socialize and enjoy outside experiences as if they are ‘soon going away’. I hadn’t realized how much the PTSD from new mom life and quarantine had deeply affected me.
I had to learn a new way of appreciating my home and ‘staying in’ without feeling as if I am not grateful for the opportunity to ‘get out’. Over the past year or so, I’ve really learned so much about myself, how I was so plugged into hustle culture and the ‘girl boss’ mindset, that I had forgotten the bliss that comes from relishing in my true feminine energy nature.
I had to reprogram my natural state of being to embracing a slower routine by embracing rest and relaxation as a way to conserve my inner peace so that when I am in action, I’m incredibly effective and productive, so as to not compromise my success.
Being someone that works from home (and films videos at home) I have to ensure my home experience supports me in being effective, productive and at the same time, utterly blissful.
I learned that the best way to remain successful in my life, was creating an environment that nurtured my mind, body and spirit in a very feminine way. I put together a little for you sharing the ways that I slow down and romanticize my life at home.
8 simple ways to slow down and romanticize your life at home:
1. Enhance your sleep experience with rituals.
Getting a good night of beauty sleep is essential for optimizing your day and feeling fantastic. So, I knew I had to make my bedroom feel like an absolute dream. Plush pillows, blankets and delicious bed sheets.
I like to make my sleep experience a complete ritual. I use linen sprays so that when I dive into bed, so it smells incredible. I light up my essential oil diffuser with serenity oils to help me fall asleep. I program my sound machine to turn on at 7 pm every evening with a soft amber light glow to help my brain get ready for sleep. The entire experience is absolute bliss and helps you slip into your peace and ease, the ultimate feminine expressions.

2. Upgrade your home lounge wear.
There is nothing I love more than lounge wear at home. The second I walk in the door I love to find my coziest clothes and put them on. I do not sleep in anything but gorgeous pajamas or a beautiful robe. I need to feel the soft fabrics against my skin at night and be able to get up walk to my kitchen for coffee in something just fabulous.
Also, whenever you decide to stay in, you will be more likely to slip in to neglecting your self care if you feel like a slob while having your morning coffee. You want to feel pretty, fun and feminine. Treat yourself to pretty things to wear for yourself, and that will always make an impression if you live with others too.
3. Create a luxurious coffee/tea drink experience.
When I get up in the morning, I have a full glass of water with a little lemon in it. The water glass is beautiful with pink chrysanthemums on it. The lemon squeezer is this adorable little pink thing and it brings just a little more joy to my day.
My coffee experience is hands down THE most luxurious experience of my day, I am absolutely in love with my set up. Even the jar that holds my Nespresso coffee pods sits on a gorgeous mirrored tray. And don’t get me started on the beautiful coffee mugs I use. The entire thing makes me feel like a million bucks and you want the same for yourself too because how you do one thing is how you do everything. Meaning if you drink your coffee like a fabulous goddess, that vibration will carry through the rest of your day as well.
4. Add plants, fresh flowers and other little luxuries.
In Feng Shui, plants and flowers represent the energy of life and vibrancy. In other words, it keeps the energy in your home fresh, bright and colorful. Color will affect your energy more than you think. Yellow brings joy, Green cultivates the energy of abundance, Blues promote relaxation and serenity, Whites symbolize clarity and fresh starts. You can use this knowledge to help surround yourself with all of that decor therapy.
Bring in small things like crystals, candles and fresh or faux flowers and plants to decorate your special spaces.
5. Set your table at least once a week.
Setting the table is an art form, its also a creative expression, like cooking. If you aren’t big on cooking a huge meal at home, that’s okay. Just be sure to set up your table as if you are having a gorgeous home cooked meal, even if it came in as take out. It helps to get your creative juices flowing and it makes you more inclined to invite guests over which will bring more happiness to your home. Tapping into that creative, nurturing side of yourself will leave you feeling more of your feminine side come out.
6. Create a signature home fragrance.
Sensory experiences will immediately have you unleash your feminine energy as women are incredibly sensual beings. When you focus on getting more in touch with your five senses, you will connect more with your body, your true feminine nature. The easiest way to start, is through smell. Candles, essential oils, lotions, perfumes, etc will all have you tickling your sense of smell. I once read that Patricia Altschul from Southern Charmed had a signature potpourri in her home that everyone ranted and raved about. I then decided to find my own home fragrance that was my homes signature and I’ve never looked back. It will leave a lasting affect on your guests.
Here are a few of my favorites, that I suggest…
♥️ I like to burn Tom Ford Fucking Fabulous, always makes my home smell decadent.
♥️ Using an essential oil diffuser with citrus/grapefruit always invigorates me in the morning.
♥️ I also LOVE using candle warmers like this one to keep my candle smell lingering all day long without burning it down so fast. Plus, it looks so pretty.
♥️ I’m also a fan of spiritual ritual candles like this one, they have aromatherapy benefits that help you manifest.
7. Prepare your bath/shower experience for relaxation.
Turning your bath into a sanctuary is of the utmost importance. Your bathroom is THE most important room for taking exquisite care of yourself and it should feel like a spa if you know what you’re doing. When your bathroom feels pampering and beautiful, you will be more likely to take extra time caring for and beautifying yourself. Which you need to help build your relationship with yourself.
Set yours up complete with plans to take a long, very slow bath. You can even do a bath ritual like this or this.
8. Set up little altars of joy.
All throughout my home I have little moments that literally boost my serotonin. There is even an entire new name for the trend which is called ‘dopamine decor’. It’s basically curating your home to have pops of joy all throughout your home, delicious treats for your eye absolutely everywhere. For me, I curate my altars with tokens of beautiful memories, crystals, plants and objects that put a huge smile on my face.
When we neglect ourselves and our home, we tend to live a life of stress and struggle. But when we care for ourselves, our inner peace and our homes…we shift into ease and luxury.
Here’s the thing, a low sense of self worth and self esteem will make you cling to things and beg for others to stay up front and center in your life. The false idea that you have no options will make you stay depleted and out there chasing outside things, people and places. Instead of staying in and taking care of yourself, your energy and your home.
