After taking a long weekend and relaxing in Austin, I'm back to work in full force this week. Following my much needed break, I've gotten a bit of clarity and design ideas just pouring out of me. One of my newest e-decorating clients has a blank space and a lot of windows & natural light. They aren't really into too much color but would love one pop of color incorporated. They live in Chicago. She is a yoga instructor, he is a banker...very high contrast. So, I was inspired by the high contrast look of black molding + white walls. It's so pure and simple with a glamorous edge. Nothing could be more perfect to me, especially because I am very drawn to anything 'high contrast'. The thing they do agree on is the love summertime and they want their home to embody a Hollywood glamorous summertime soiree.
What if we started with a tufted sofa in a pool water color? This one is absolutely stunning! What's better than a good Slim Aarons poolside pic to put you in the summertime mood? To pull in the high contrast, we will go with vintage black and white lamps like these. Campaign dressers are always fun and bring in a pretty pop of gold. I like this white and gold one from Pottery Barn. How good would this glass and brass coffee table be in the mix? Their wood floors are fantastic and they have a puppy so they don't really want any rugs or anything on the floor. However, I am always a fan of a zebra rug to add at least some floor dimension. It's very glam. They have an old chandelier that we need to replace and I feel something clean and modern would be a nice fit. This gorgeous brass one will work perfectly. Now, every fabulous home needs a bar cart right? How about a cool acrylic one for massive style? You can wheel it around too.

A few more inspiration images to show the impact of black molding and white walls.
One thing I think that is majorly important is paying attention to the doors. Black doors are a must and really are so very glamorous. I love these in high gloss. They almost look wet.
One of my favorite little bakeries in LA, Bo Nuage is such a great example of the impact of the high contrast dynamic. It makes such an incredible statement.
The thing to note about black molding/white walls is that it is completely versatile. It can go with modern, bohemian or even nod to a pretty Parisian style.
The high contrast black + white looks also lends itself so well to fashion. Here is how I would wear it. . .
