This week I was lucky enough to be a part of something wildly special. I took part of the Home Goods Happy Challenge which is to makeover a space for someone to make their home happy. So, I decided to partner with Dec My Room, an organization that believes in creating healing spaces for ill children by decorating their hospital rooms with fun and beautiful things. The organization just blew my mind so of course I was up to the challenge of changing someones life who really deserves it. I worked with the Texas Childrens Hospital in Houston and decked out a 16 year old girls room during her very, very long stay.
Here is the before and after. Her hospital room of course is very drab and hospital like. Thank goodness for the soft purple wallcolor already up. HomeGoods was generous enough to sponsor me with $250 to deck out her space. It was actually such a fun challenge, I found so many awesome things for this girl. All I knew was that she loved baby blue and pink, animal prints (my kinda girl), dogs, and all things arts and crafts. I felt that was right up my alley.
So, I decided to pull together items in ocean blues, very tranquil colors to make her stay more relaxing and enjoyable. I hooked her up with some designer blue zebra pillows, a super plush neutral leopard print blanket, a basket of plush pink towels, a cool fluffy rug, art and pillows with uplifting messages, a cool tray and colors and journals to dream on, serene lights and a small ceramic puppy that she ended up naming "bitsy".
I can't tell you much about this amazing girl out of respect for her privacy, but I can tell you this was such an incredible experience. Meeting her and seeing her fight for her life literally moved me. Seeing her reaction to her decked out room brought tears to everyones eyes. I was so excited to give her all these beautiful things that made her so happy and they made her mom so happy too! #HomeGoodsHappy challenge successful! I hope you guys look into Dec My Room and see about getting involved with this in your area. Being a part of this girls life was so rewarding for me, I know it will be for you all too! A huge thank you to HomeGoods & Dec My Room!
