Home Tour: Stylish Brooklyn living via NYTIMES

These summer like days in New York are absolutely wonderful, I swear I wake up and take on the day with an extra spring in my step. Hello sunshine!
What else puts a little brightness on my day? Seeing amazing spaces with outrageous wallpaper. The moment I saw this dining room in a NYTimes article, my eyes almost popped out. How incredibly chic is this Vivienne Westwood, tromp l'oell plaid wallpaper. It's fabulous behind the pair of Hello Kitty solider portraits (I just can't get over how cool those are). Finishing off with a wood dining table + benches. Hello...this Brooklyn pad is so incredibly cool...
I also love this living room. Metallic wallpaper and glam accessories make for such a good eclectic mix.

The girls room with flamingo wallpaper. These are my favorites all in one home. I wanna live here.
Such a chic little family aren't they. I wish my parents were that cool.
  kidding. my parents are awesome!

The Art of Living: making doors more chic with wallpaper

The moment I spotted this gorgeous entryway, I let out a sharp gasp! How gorgeous + dramatic, no? I quickly realized the effectiveness of wallpapered doors and remembered the way I adore Martinique Wallpaper ...

I just love the continuity that wallpapered doors provides. It's almost essential in New York apartments due to the size. Keeping the same pattern throughout actually makes the space seem bigger. It's such a clever old decorators trick and looks magnificent!
I really love the way the dark brown and mint green damask wallpaper looks. So chic.
I kind of want to try it now don't you?

10 things that rocked my world this week...April 13

1. In my post a few days ago, I talked about loving where you live and I truly believe in that. Point is clearly shown here as this is my view when I walk in my door, stripes galore! I love it.

 2. No one loves brass like me and this very cool coffee table just took me by a sweet surprise. I am getting so excited to go to High Point Market and see the latest goodies.
 3. Tangerine Tango is popping up all over this city. Color of the year is on fire, I never really had a passion for orange but its slowly creeping up on me. It can be such a vibrant and pretty color.
 4. Where Brooklyn at? Had to do some work in Brooklyn Heights this week and I thoroughly enjoyed my visit there, some incredible townhomes and lovely little shops.
 5. Oh how any domestic goddess must love a good knife collection. I attended the Spring event for West Elm and the new kitchen goods were just awesome!
 6. I love the combo in my bathroom right now. White, silver and black...now all thats missing is a little greenery.
 7. I spent a LOT of time at the D & D building this weekend selecting fabrics and such. I don't know what it is about tassles that always draws me in but I love them in every color!
 8. I attended a super fab art event and blue & cream. It's probably one of my new favorite little shops downtown. I just loved everything!
 9. Oh yeah. Clients new entryway light fixture. Sooo pretty!
10. One of the best things about New York City...the cool graffiti and art all around the town. This cute little word was stenciled on a local garbage dumbster. How perfect, no?

Sheena and the city: NYC hotspot CATCH

Catch is one of the Meatpacking Districts’ newest eateries, and home to the
2007 winner of top chef, so unsurprisingly draws in quite the crowd. Upon
entering the space on the ground level, you are transported by a cologne
filled elevator, which takes you to the restaurant on the second floor. It’s
vibe is cool, and the décor has a rustic chic feeling.

The overall palette of the space has been kept simple but sophisticated,
with a strong focus on lighting; by using a variety of sources and styles,
the designers have allowed themselves the flexibility to create a variety of
moods. Mustard leather tufted banquettes line the exposed brick walls of
the dining room, ceilings are lined with copper panels and this blends nicely
with the abundance of gold toned wood used throughout the restaurant.
The various industrial light fixtures are juxtaposed with the bright blue-
green painted chairs, which provide just the perfect pop of color.
Here’s how you can get a similar look in your home....

5 ways to achieve domestic bliss...

Just the other day I got an interview questionnaire and as I was filling it out there was one question that got to me. It asked me what is the purpose behind what I do.
Oddly, enough I had to think about it for a minute because my first instinct was to talk about how I want to make the world a more beautiful place. That answer didn't really sit right in my heart and then I realized that what I am most passionate about is the home.
Your home is your sanctuary and I love the feeling of loving my home, I feel so awesome at the end of the day coming home to my special space. My purpose is to help other people have that same feeling about where they live...you know, the art of domestic bliss....

1. Don't take your decor seriously...add elements of whimsy to your home by introducing random things that you love. Like this funky bird on the console. If you love it, every time you enter your home, it will make you smile!
2. Make your bed every morning. Studies have shown that you will have more power and energy to attack your day if your bed is tidy.
3.Get organized. I know the messy decor looks better in photos but in real life it is essential to keep your things tidy. It will make for a happier day and you will have a much more fun time getting ready if you know where everything is.
4. Keep your favorite fragrances going at all times. Light candles, use reed diffusers or put scented sachets in drawers.
5. Create a special place for you to unwind, relax and read a good book.

Tablescape Tuesday: bright blooms

This spring all I can think about is beautiful brunches on the rooftop. Nothing is more blissful than sunshine and a lovely afternoon with friends. What makes for the perfect table setting in spring are bright, beautiful and colorful flowers. Arranged in all different sizes, shapes and colors they just brighten up even a monotone place setting. Flowers are the ultimate treat for springtime delights...

Effortless Style + Colorful Tradition

Hi Decorista readers! It's Camila from Effortless Style back to share another room you can recreate in your home on a budget. Today's room is one of my favorites from Martha Stewart Living. It's the most like my own design style in that it's a mix of traditional, modern and eclectic with a high dose of color!
1. The most important piece in this room is the large abstract piece of art. Original art can be expensive in any size, but here is a colorful piece in a 30" x 30" size for only $350.
2. A neutral sofa is a key to any living room. Keeping your sofa a neutral will enable you to switch up your room as many times that you want with accessories and paint colors. This $999 option even comes with nailhead trim detailing!
3. & 4. The most unique part of this room is that the coffee table is actual a cot with fabric covered baking sheets on top of it! They used a vintage cot, but here is a new one for $70. Use some $10 a yard chevron fabric to cover your baking sheets with this tutorial.
5.$499for an 8 x 10 rug is an amazing price point!
6. Let's pretty up the sofa with some pillow talk. The orange embroidered tile option is available for $99 including the feather insert. The green ikat option is only $22!
7. My DIY project in this room was one of the simplest. The cabinets to the left and right of the sofa are from IKEA. In order to give them a higher end look they added decorative radiator grates to them. Only $19for a 1ft by 2ft section.
I'm always looking for suggestions on different rooms to showcase. Email me at camila@effortless-style.com with a room you would like to see recreated on a budget.

Style-icious Sunday...POLKA DOTS

This spring polka dots are pretty and oh so fun! I got really inspired by this polka dot fashion top and then got to peeping out some dots in home decor. I am ever so inspired by the sweet swagger of whimsy and delightfulness that polka dots provide...

You can try them on the walls or in the bedroom and they look especially fabulous on the tabletop.
And of course, in your wardrobe they give the effect of  effortless style...
and why not give it a try in your works of art?

10 things that rocked my world this week... April 7

 1. One of my best friends in the world came to visit me in NYC and we took the city by storm. Our favorite spot was the W downtown, the upstairs lounge has THE coolest ceiling I have ever seen. These curvy, strip lights...it's like being in a fun house. We loved it.

2.  I loved loved loved, being part of the JOYUS blogger design challenge. If you haven't voted yet,  go ahead and watch the videos and vote for your favorite. They are all so much fun to watch.
 3. So my sweet friend sent me this photo of this gorgeous mirrored console. I think my heart skipped a beat. I love that its not a dresser. This could be the perfect bar area for someones fancy apartment.
 4. All the african and ethnic things are just perfect for this spring and summer and I found these amazing bangles. So cute, I just adore them.
 5. I visited the Met this week and let me tell you, I could just be there all day long. This one installation inspired me so much. I love gradient colors in art. So pretty.
6. I haven't found a decor book that I can read over and over in a while, but this book has sincerely stolen my heart. Be your own decorator by Susanna Salk is really, really good. Every page is filled with colorful gorgeousness.
7. this leopard metallic wallpaper I spotted while at a vintage store downtown is amazing! It was in a window installation and I felt instantly connected to its charm. Hello glam 80's.
8. For those of you that don't know me, I am still just a little girl at heart and I just have a small obsession with HELLO KITTY. She is so cute. My mom still sends me cute little things because she knows I love her so...
9. Since the sun has started rising from a different angle in my apartment and every morning I wake up feeling so energized by the gorgeous sunlight peering through the window.
#momentsofdomesticbliss
10. Last but certainly not least, I want to add that this week has been such a beautiful one. The week of Easter is filled with such good feelings for me. Celebrating what Jesus did for us as people, is a beautiful thing. So incredibly thankful!

Weekend decorating...VANITY CANDY

My week has been incredibly hectic. Work, events, friends, emails, etc. I can't complain, God has blessed me with a full life but sometimes I think to myself I must take a minute and breathe and take it all in. In order to live in the "now", I have to remember to take some time for me.  One of my favorite moments of the day is getting ready, it's truly where I get to focus totally on myself and reflect on things.
So, I have realized that I must create the ultimate vanity area...
and I should make sure to decorate it with beautiful and happy things. So inspired by well curated vanity areas. Perfume bottles, candles, jewelry boxes, pretty dishes, flowers, baubles, artwork etc.

What do you like to decorate your primping area with???

decorate with feathers...

You guys have been so amazing to vote for me at the JOYUS contest. I loved hearing your feedback on the room too! Many of you mentioned your love for the peacock feathers I used in the space and I just wanted to encourage more of that. Feathers are fun!
My obsession with Kishani Perera's book + decor reaffirms my feelings for feathers, too! Here in this pretty pink dining room she accessorizes with feathers....

Even in artwork, feathers can be cute too. I adore this pretty peacock painting.
Or why not go with the real deal?

Secret of domestic bliss #64...Bedroom Suite Swagger {CANOPY BEDS}

Romantic bedrooms just speak to my soul. It's probably why I love period films so much, the bedroom is always so luxurious and filled with layers of fabrics. I have always want to re create this look in my own bedroom (if my current one was any bigger, i would give it a try)...

I got inspired by Apartment Therapy to create my very own look at home.
Here are a few examples of how to create a faux canopy bed...
and how you can do it yourself.

Pretty stylish huh?

Office space of the day...Adore Home Magazine April/May

pretty white pieces + pops of pink office supplies + chanel ottoman + graffiti artwork =
domestic bliss

Loving the latest issue of Adore Home Magazine. It's really fun and bright and has totally inspired my work. Here are a few of my favorite photos...

I can't get over the look of this pretty bathroom, the mirrored cabinets had me at hello. I also love the grey towels and wicker baskets to really give some warmth to the cold, modern fixtures.
Pretty pillows = cozy bedroom. That pretty fur throw is yummy looking too!
Black and white striped breakfast nook, HELLO...this is my favorite.
Another cozy bedroom and another faux fur throw...I also love the oversized mirror behind the bed.
Total new york glam apartment. I love this look. I also am seriously in love with the pops of pink, and lucite bar cart/folding tray. So glam, no? I think the sisal rug really gives the perfect touch too.
 "I'm dreaming of a white....kitchen...!"
I think this look is so palm springs pretty. I love the white and chrome touches. Pops of yellow make it very Viceroy. Gotta love that.

office space of the day...black, white, bold and blue

white walls + black accents + bit of zebra + pops of pretty blue =
domestic bliss
Loving this uber chic home of Stacey Cohen, an incredibly cool Toronto designer. I have seen this spread going around the web for a while now but for some reason as the warmer weather approaches, I am loving pops of bold color. My favorite part is that its just ONE color, not lots of them. It keeps it crisp and clean...so very Mary Mcdonald bold. I just love everything about it.
I really do love bold contrasts of white molding on dark color. This faux headboard is the perfect example of that. Very easy to recreate this look at home. Be inspired.

1. It's raining here in New York and I have one of my favorite people in the world visiting me, wishing it was sunnier. It makes me reminisce over my time in Florida, oh how I miss the sunshine and painting in my caftan + gold bikini. I had a few of you commission me to paint you "pink sunsets" and it warms my heart to do them. I just love getting in the creative spirit...
