Tablescape Tuesday: Diane Von Furstenberg for your table

Wish you could have Diane Von Furstenberg over for dinner? Well, now you can. This mega-mogul fashion designer has come full force onto the interior design scene. Like other fashion designers, Diane made waves tricking out a fabulous London hotel and now has stepped it up like Kelly Wearstler and created a line of dishware that is fun + oh so fabulous.
Turquoise and black leopard print for my tabletop? Yes please!

The Art of Living...how to decorate a fireplace

The next few days here in New York are supposed to be wildly snowy. So aside from the bevvy of blogger/magazine launch parties this week, I'd love to be bundled up next to the fireplace catching up on the online glossies. Which brought me to the question that most readers ask me...
"how do I decorate or style my fireplace?"
I am always a huge fan of artwork above the fire, something extraordinarily beautiful to gaze at.
Mirrors work too, they open up the space and with beautiful ornate framing can be a lovely sight.
A combination of both art and mirrors can work extremely well too.
I especially love this purple room and how to use architectural elements (ie. graphic molding) to create a beautiful look with amazing style.

The Art of Living...how to create a glamourous bathroom

After falling for the Dita Von Teese shoot, I am feeling the feminine vibe. Nothing is more fun than luxuriating in the art of getting dolled up. So you must have a fabulous bathroom to make you feel glamorous. This bathroom styled by Eva Lindh is incredibly posh, don't you think?

Redesigning your home and want to
Get this look:
There are key essentials when redesigning your bathroom to look like this. First of all you need to re-grout with some gorgeous sheen tile. I love the gold trim on the shower enclosure, a beautiful one is essential after all. In the corner, you must add a fabulous shower tray to store all of your essential items, too. Notice also the gold bathroom tap, it just pops.

secret of domestic bliss #39... decorating with screens

Screens are absolutely essential in interior decorating. You will likely find a screen perfectly placed in a well designed home, simply because designers are so not afraid to use them. They can be intimidating for the average decorista just looking to spruce up her space because placement is key. I want you all to know, its perfectly normal. Don't let that stop you, however, from using this magical items. They can turn a drab corner into fabulousity, they make a great headboard and can even be used to divide a really big room. Let these images be your inspirational guide!

interior style crush: Graham Moss

After perusing the internet over the holiday weekend, I have so much to share.
I have fallen head over heels in love with the creative works of NYC interior stylist Graham Moss. The creative mind train that is used for set styling is unpredictable and a vital necessity in the design world. It takes amazing patience and a well trained eye to pull off style like this.

I love his uses of monochromatic color stories to set the scene for this show-stopping interiors.

This unexpected butterfly artwork works perfectly here. I can’t get enough of Mr. Moss’s work.
So splendid...don't you think?

Tablescape tuesday {entryway table decorating}

As we all know, the entryway of a home is one the most important spaces to decorate.
It is like the opening chapter of a book, its got to be good.
Tablescaping the entryway can sometimes present a challenge but I am just loving how these foyers, have been styled with displays of beautiful treasures.
Artwork and flowers are extremely helpful and oversize decor can make such an impact.
Oh, and really great rugs and beautiful trays, work wonders!

decorating ideas...wonderful walls of white frames

Oh how I love a good "white done right" room.
These are two very cool rooms with gatherings of all white frames.
Super chic and super easy to recreate...

1. grab a can or two of high-gloss spray paint
2. get a few random frames with detail at your local thrift shop (always buy in odd numbers)
3. spray away!

Easy as 1, 2, 3 and very inexpensive. I just love this kinda stuff.

The Art of Living...how to properly set a table

The weekend is here and the dinner party invitations are steadily coming in.
As always, I offered my help to each of the hosts and surprisingly I got asked a question...
Do you know how to properly set a table for a dinner party?

My grandmother taught me at the age of 5 and she always insisted a formal table setting at every single family occasion.
{I figured you guys might like to know the answer too...so here are my cheat sheets.}

This setting is perfect for intimate dinners with close friends...

Now if you are having a large party or just want to impress your guests this formal setting is for you!

A well styled table is a sure fire way to achieve harmony at a dinner party and ultimately create the perfect mood for you very own domestic bliss!

rooms that rock my world! {NYC city girl glamour}

Oh my, the style in this room is such a fashionista meets decorista glam.
I completely fawn over spaces like this.
Chic gold pieces and layered textures marvel in this super stylish abode.
I could imagine living in NYC and after a full day of walking in 5 inch heels,
coming home to soft music, candlelight and this ubiquitous glamour.

secret of domestic bliss #36... marvelously decorated bookshelves

Nothing says pedigree better than a finely decorated and well stocked bookcase.
It gives the opportunity for people like me, who love looking at people's digs, an idea of who they are,
what you enjoy reading & what your interests are.
It says so much about you!
If you don't read at all, it is most certainly proper to showcase your fabulous dishware.
Whatever you fill your bookshelves with, make sure they are treasures that you are in love with.
(I'm just crazy for the ones above lined in black, simply gorgeous!)
I have always been inspired by the bookcase in Olivia Wilde's home. I love her style.
I just love the unexpected objects and typewriter as accessories.

It's brilliant to accessorize with vintage book collections, the colors are usually simlar.

When you can, I always suggest grouping in colors...it's such a sharp looking effect.

I also am a huge believer in strategically placing fabulous artwork, it can give your bookcase extreme personality.

The Art of Living...decorating moments of masculinity

Just like any other decorista, I go crazy for a bold and feminine room...
however, mixing in some masculinity into an interior can create such a perfect harmony.
It's almost too good to resist.
An easy way to pop in a gentleman's vibe is by using amazing taxidermy,
aka well mounted antlers.
Decorating with antlers is major unabashed masculinity and I highly recommend trying it.
If you can't stand the sight of real life anters, Zgallerie has a great collection of plastered white ones that are also incredibly chic. Check out their latest collection.

{Please note that this look can easily be overdone. So limit your creativity to soft panache.}
