The Art of Living...getting creative with headboards

My mind is filled with creative ideas today. I found this gorgeous quilt that reminded me of this photo and it got me thinking about different and unique headboards.
I love the idea of an original one of a kind headboard. It creates an unexpected visual interest in the bedroom. Here are some ideas to get your mind going... just let the creativity flow.

The Decorista tip of the day...wallpaper on the ceiling

So yesterday I spent my day with the wallpaper installer. I learned so much about what is needed to ensure a proper ceiling wallpaper install. Since my meeting with him, I am now strongly convinced that more people need to be wallpapering their ceilings. I will never look at a ceiling the same again.
After doing some research online, I noticed that rooms almost look empty to me should they not have some embellishment or color on the ceiling. Having seen so many photographs of gorgeous interiors, don't you all agree?

for the fabulousness that is wallpaper magic...

look! even Kelly Wearstler does it...

Wallcolor Wednesday... signature decorista PINK

Pink is all the rage this year. It's everywhere you look... fashion, accessories and home decor. Hot pink is  The Decorista signature color so  I will always be a huge supporter of pink on the walls. True, most people will be intimidated by the color (especially the male population) but that doesn't make it any less worthy of being used. It always makes for a great accent wall and I hardly think it will leave you with a boring looking home. So, today I have corralled a post of beautiful PINK inspiration....

(I have also added a new feature to the blog to allow for easier reading...you can choose the posts you want to read by clicking on the jump)

how to decorate like a supermodel...jessica stam for Vogue

I've always adored Jessica Stam and her gorgeous apartment looks. This one might be my favorite right now. I am so inspired by mixing metallics, neutrals and woods. The gorgeous mirrored wall is the perfect way to add drama to any small space...so clever. I am also smitten with the luscious velvet sofa, it has a sheen that looks like metallic magic. Large windows, an adorable ceramic greyhound and modern lucite coffee table complete the sophisticated supermodel look.

art wall attractions

Last night I attended a very interesting art event. It wasn't an ordinary gallery showing, it was art on display in an upper east side apartment. Very fun. What was so interesting to me was the way that the art was displayed on the walls. The more art the better in this case, and it inspired me on the many different ways an art wall can work.
My favorite is this very streamlined and symmetrical look. So chic!

The Art of Living...how to decorate with screens

One of my clients had crazy misconception about decorating with screens. They saw a screen that they absolutely loved, but thought it wouldn't be of any use in their home because they don't want to divide up space. Well, I thought it would be appropriate to make sure that all of you know there are so many more uses for screens than just dividers. You can use them as a beautiful headboard, to soften a corner, or as a beautiful art piece on the wall. The larger scale, the better, they can always be a beautiful addition to any home.

The Decorista tip of the day.... layer mirrors

One of my E-decor clients is obsessed with making her fireplace be show-stopping! So as I have been researching for some fireside inspiration, I came across this image and fell in love. I think its genius to layer mirrors, they give such dramatic impact. IKEA has fabulous (and budget friendly) square mirrors that you can get and stick on to the wall above a fireplace...and then just find an ornate + glam mirror to lean up on the mirrored wall. Instant style!

secret of domestic bliss #43...colorful couches

When working with clients, most people shy away from color, but in the end always want a little more. It's really normal to be reluctant to dropping down a pile of cash for a bright and beautifully colored sofa.   I get it. I really do. However, in light of some recent decor discoveries, I have found that some of the most stunning spaces are using bright, colorful sofas and they look fantastic. I am starting to think that sometimes, it might be just what you need to make your home stand apart. I'm smitten over some of the couches with completely gorgeous hues. In my next apartment, I might just have to get one.

I even semi think this super vintage + retro sofa looks perfect in this uber hip space...

secret of domestic bliss #42...MIRRORED PERFECTION

Creatively using mirrors can be the ultimate decorating tool for your home. Mirrors can work a variety of wonders for your dwelling space. For example, a perfectly placed mirrored screen can soften a harsh or unsightly corner. Mirrors can also add architectural style and influence, in addition, an oversized mirror can brighten up the darkest of spaces. Take a look at the gorgeous dining room below with an oversized mirror set behind the table...the light looks breathtaking, don't you think?

The Art of Living...living room layout ideas

I love the layout of this Windsor Smith living room. It's kind of perfection in my eyes.
The placement of furniture is always key in the living room.
You always want to create a focal point (something beautiful to gaze at) while at the same time making sure there are ample relaxing & conversation spaces. It is a learned art form, but here are some I like to keep around for inspiration.

I'm also kind of crazy about this home. The irregular living room floorplan is always a challenge but I love how everything is blended together so effortlessly. The odd brown leather chair over by the shelving is genius for extra seating. Something else of fabulous note is the daybed with open sides so that the space isn't broken but creates a flow, such a great idea.

WALK IN WOWZA

I am always arrested by amazing and gorgeous homes. It's something that I can never get enough of.
My e-decorating clients are always surprised when I try to educate them on creating an amazing entry.
I adore the feeling of walking into someones home and being wowed by its style.
These entryways are so well decorated, I would be so impressed by anyone who decorated the entryway with over the top amazing collections of frames. Here are some amazing ideas...
